Located in the (Kerala)Munnar-Tamil Nadu border, Kolukkumalai is famous for trekking and adventure activities. In kolukkumalai You’ll be staying at one of the highest campsite in the South india besides the Kurangani peak. (Adventure travellers might be also interested in Dandeli tour packages).

How to Reach this Kolukkumalai Tent Stay Campsite :
If you’re travelling overnight or by govt bus then you can stay in Suryanelli which is the nearest place to Kolukkumalai.
Otherwise you can directly come to HML(Harrisons Malayalam) tea factory. The check-in time is around 4 P.M. So, you can have your lunch before reaching the tea estate.
You can have a hot cuppa tea of your taste while you’re at the HML tea factory. They also provided us with a walkaround of the tea factory for a small fee. You can also purchase the best quality tea from their factory as well. ( Love trekking in the wild? Check Masinagudi cottages and trekking).
Itinerary & Activities of Kolukkumalai Tea Estate
Day 1 : Kolukkumalai Tent Stay – Jeep Safari
- Leave your vehicle behind in the HML tea factory and a jeep will arrive to pick you up.
- The trip starts around 4 P.M and if you’ll start the journey in their jeep ride.
- It takes around 25 minutes to reach their campsite from the base camp.
- There’ll be one or two stops on the way near the mighty waterfall.
- After reaching the Kolukkumalai campsite you’ll be allocated with the tents.
- Dinner and campfire is provided at 8 P.M.
- You’ll then retire back to your own tents.
Dinner Menu – Chapathi, Dal, Rice, Chicken.

Day 2 : Kolukkumalai Tent Stay – Sunrise
- Early morning trek to watch the sunrise starts at 5 A.M.
- Trek to one of their private waterfalls and have a cold bath.
- Sip a hot and refreshing tea with your breakfast after returning.
- The jeep leaves back to the Kolukkumalai base camp.
Breakfast Menu – Puttu & Kadala / Egg bhurji and Bread.
In-case if you’re looking for a separate trekking itinerary to Meesapulimala then that can be arranged for a separate cost.
They also have the highest zipline adventure ride in India but for now it is under maintenance.
Note : The price mentioned above for booking Kolukkumalai tent stay is including the jeep cost. If you're in a hurry then a separate jeep can be arranged for extra cost.
